Veggies? No thanks, Mom.

So. I have started to notice a pattern developing over the past few weeks. As I entered the second trimester, my morning sickness did start to fade. But it did not disappear entirely. I'd wake up and feel totally fine for 4 or 5 mornings in a row. Then the next morning- wham!- I'd clutch my hands over my mouth as I made a desperate sprint towards the bathroom.

As this strange new pattern developed, I started to think about what I'd had to eat the nights prior to my sudden bouts of morning sickness recurrence. Every single time, I had eaten veggies- and usually raw veggies. Just a coincidence, I convinced myself last night as I bought a veggie sub from my favorite sub shop, Jimmy John's.

And this morning? You guessed it. I was standing at the back door in my robe, waiting as Maggie took care of business. And then it happened. My mouth started watering, the gag reflex kicked in, and Maggie was left standing alone in the backyard.

I'm left to draw one conclusion here: this kid hates veggies. His or her mom? She loves them! But right now, my body is not my own. It belongs to someone else. Someone who apparently hates veggies with a fiery passion.

You know what this kid does not hate? Brownies. Teddy Grahams. Ice cream. Root beer. Chocolate milk. Macaroni and cheese. Chocolate anything. Think my doctor will approve of my new diet?

Yeah, me either.

Haha, I'm glad you think you figured out what might be causing your M/S other than just being PG. Gosh, those are all my favorite foods too! Too bad I can't eat any of them anymore. I say enjoy them guilt-free now!!!

I've noticed I've wanted a lot of kids foods lately like mac & cheese, juice boxes, pb&j... must be the kid inside of me demanding it. No wonder yours doesn't like veggies! That cracks me up! I'm glad you've narrowed it down though and know what is setting it off now! But sad that you have to give up one of your favorite things :(

I am glad that you figured out what was causing the bouts of sickness. Hopefully the little one will learn to like them soon so that mommy can keep eating them...And, maybe an ALL brownie diet is not what the dr ordered, but maybe chocolate is good for some sort of development???

That is hilarious! Not the vomit part, but the Mac & Cheese, Ice Cream, Chocolate anything part.

It's really great that you narrowed down the culprit though. I hope things start settle down soon, so you can have your veggies back!

I love Jimmy Johns! Stay away from those raw veggies and hopefully you'll be okay.

To respond to your comment on my blog, it does sound like we have lots in common! Don't you love being insanely anxious all the time?! Thank you for the congrats and for following the blog. It is always nice to talk to a fellow IF-er that understands the worrying! Thanks!!

Oh that is so weird with veggies being linked to you getting sick! Good that you know what it is, but hopefully your LO will develop a taste for them in your third trimester.

OMG... JJ... I love Jimmy Johns... unfortunately there are none where I live. Not many people have heard of JJ. I love their turkey tom and the veggie subs. I am sorry this is totally offbeat! :) And sorry that your kiddo doesnt like it right now... but, I am sure he/she will appreciate it later! :P

On a much saner note: Congratulations on the pregnancy!!! I had a chemical at 5 weeks... and I started off with very low HCG... so its good to hear your story - its a +ve reinforcement! Good luck with the rest of the journey!
