I hate Day 5 of sleep training. Remember a few months ago when I was trying the Baby Whisperer's pick up/put down method? Well, I didn't post about this back then but Day 5 was when I cracked. In the wee hours of the night on the fifth day of pick up/put down, I crawled into Camden's crib with him. Yep, you read that correctly. I just COULD NOT TAKE IT ANYMORE. Camden was startled at first but then went to sleep snuggled next to me. Oh, sweet victory! Except, wait. What was I supposed to do next? Start sleeping in his crib every night? Sleep training FAIL.
And that, my friends, is why I hate Day 5. I start off the sleep training process the way I imagine other people might start a new diet or an exercise regimen. I'm pumped! I'm motivated! Change is on the way! And then slowly I start to lose steam as the days pass. Sleep deprivation will do that to you. There's a reason it's been used as a form of torture.
So yesterday was Day 5 of The Shuffle. I was running on maybe 2 hours of sleep. Camden was cranky. I was an emotional disaster. At one point, I was literally up to my elbows in poop*. Matt was working mandatory overtime. Overall, it was the perfect recipe for waving the white flag of sleep training surrender.
But, you guys, I didn't. I pushed through. I got a little pep talk from Matt when he got home, took a deep breath, & continued to perfect my rendition of the Itsy Bitsy Spider (seriously, I need some new material). And you know what? Camden had a decent night.
*I picked Camden up from his Jumperoo & started to walk into the kitchen before I noticed my entire forearm was covered in poop. What is it about the Jumperoo that causes poop explosions?! That device is like a laxative for him.

Awesome! (Awesome about the decent night, not the poop. Jacob had more than his fair share of poop explosions in the Jumperoo. They need to make an adult version to use when you're constipated.)
I'm proud of you for keeping it up! Soon you'll be so glad you did!
Keep it up! :) I am trying to do some of the same things too. It is hard to be persistent when you are so tired!
sing him his ABC's, he'll learn them faster and be able to sing them before pre-school :)
ha...I'll have to read up on this Sleep Lady Shuffle, I am intrigued now. I can't believe you got IN his crib. ha...one of my friends did that and I actually thought about it yesterday, just to play and wondered if it would hold me?? good for you for not crackin', I need new material too, our songs are getting OLD. We do BINGO, Happy and You know it, Jesus Loves me, etc. You can share your favorties, maybe I'm missing some;)
Way to go!!!!
I'm so happy for you! Sleep training is so tough...we didn't have to do it at night, but I had to do it for naps because my daughter would only nap with me in my bed for months. It lasted two weeks and now she naps in her crib like a champ! I found when I was having a tough day I would make my husband take over {if he was home} and I would leave the house. Take a walk, run some errands, just sit outside. It helped to have someone else take over for a bit. COuld you get other family to help if your husband is working OT?
Great job! Keep it up. Just remind yourself that you are teaching him good sleeping habits that will last forever.
Good for you for sticking with it!!! I'm very impressed. It takes a lot of strength when you are sleep deprived and just want the easy way out. And yes, the jumperoo is basically like a poop juicer.
Congratulations on making it over that hump! Perhaps you are close to conquering this sleep training thing.
I think you will be glad you did!
(BTW, freakin hilarious to imagine you in his crib with him!!)
It sounds like you are doing a great job. We had the mommy in the crib discussion just the other day. I have one baby who refuses to sleep in her crib. I am tired of sleeping on the couch. Desperate times call for desperate measures. So, I am taking notes. Oh and one of our current favorite songs: The Wheels on the Bus.
Sleep training alone is hard! Good for you for sticking through it. I haven't even tried it yet, I know it's coming for us, although I have been in denial hoping things would just work themselves out on their own. I am sure I will be asking you for advice when the time comes!!!! LOL at the poop, I have been there!
