Day One:
We began by working on our handwriting, as usual. I think (maybe?) I can officially call Camden a lefty now. It's been a few weeks since he has switched hands to do anything.
After handwriting practice, I wanted to do something active with the boys. So I sent them on a scavenger hunt around the house to find X's of all different colors and sizes. I read clues to them and then sent them off to hunt based on my clues. They loved this game. (You can tell how fast they were moving by the blur they both are in this pic!)
They were quite pleased with themselves once they located all of the X's.
Next, we moved to the family room and the boys sorted the X's. First, they sorted by size (big, medium, and small) and then they sorted by color.
Finding X crafts isn't the easiest task in the world. We decided to make an xylophone.
I don't know how easy this is to see, but I asked the boys to show me an X with two popsicle sticks. They both figured it out pretty quickly.
Next, I had them make an X with their fingers. This actually took a few tries for both of them to figure it out!
Instead of a book about x-rays or xylophones, I decided to read the kids a classic: Rumpelstiltskin. I have to say- this story is far creepier than I remembered. A strange man showing up to take the queens first born child? Yikes! The boys, however, enjoyed it.
Day Two:
You guessed it- handwriting practice!
Next, we decided to work on some patterns. I made some basic patterns with different shapes and colors (and lots of X's) and had the boys complete the patterns by choosing the correct card from the pile.
For our craft, we made X-rays of our hands (like I said, crafts are pretty limited with the letter X!) I thought this was a cute idea, though- tracing the hand and using Q-tips as bones.
Sorry they're sideways, but here are the finished products: Camden's on the left and Will's is on the right.
Once again, we stuck to reading a classic instead of an X book. And once again, I was struck by how creepy this classic was! The evil stepmom who wants to abandon the kids in the woods? And the dad goes along with it? Yikes again!
