Home Preschool- Letter Ff

This week was devoted to the letter Ff. Once again, I scoured Pinterest and The Measured Mom's blog looking for ideas. I'm loving how excited Camden gets about "school" now; he asks me almost every day if it's a school day and I'll often find him playing with the crafts we've made hours after we've finished our lesson. This is exactly what I wanted; I didn't want this to be boring for him or something he'd dread.

And here we go with the letter Ff:

Day One:
As usual, we started off with a homemade template with various versions of the letter F for Camden to trace. He also practiced writing his own Ff's in the boxes provided. I've noticed that his pencil grip is already changing after just a week of daily writing.

Next, we moved on to a fox printable that I got from The Measured Mom's blog. This printable is good for fine motor skills, as it allows children to fill in the circles with small dot stickers (my dot stickers came from Amazon).

We also incorporated some math into our Ff day. It's hard to see in this picture, but these paper cards are numbered 1-5, and Camden had to fill them up with the appropriate number of feathers (feathers are a good sensory object and an Ff word).

Finally, we read the Little Letter F Book, courtesy of The Measured Mom. It's a cute little book filled with rhymes and songs.

For our Ff craft, we made a paper plate fish. Camden really enjoyed this and it was a simple (and inexpensive) craft. It called for: a paper plate, some aluminum foil, glue, a googly eye, scissors, and some paint.

Day Two:

As usual, we began with our homemade Ff template.  This time, I incorporated a "find the big F and little f" game into it. As a memory refresher, I also had him find the big B and little b.

I'm all about reusing items as often as possible. I'm trying to make this home preschool a frugal adventure. So, we broke out the feathers again to fill our big F.

I got some adorable little printable numbered frogs from The Measured Mom for a math activity. I wasn't sure how exactly I was going to incorporate them into the lesson, but I knew Camden would enjoy the frogs. I decided to begin by spreading them out on the floor and having Camden hop from the numbers 1-20 in the correct order. He did this on his own with very little assistance.

Next, he made a "frog train" by lining the frogs up from 1-20 in the correct order. He did this activity entirely without assistance and was very proud of himself. Side note: he slept with these frogs in a Ziploc bag in his bed that night. He is obsessed.

For our Day Two craft, we made fireworks. I figured since the Fourth of July is approaching, fireworks would make a good Ff word craft. Prior to making the fireworks, we talked about why we celebrate the Fourth and how America broke free from England's rule. Camden must've asked me 500 times that day, "So, we used to live in England?" So cute.

The craft was simple-- we used a TP roll, some pipe cleaners, construction paper, tape, and paint to put it all together. It's not gorgeous, but he loves it.
