Day One:
We began by practicing writing our little H and big h with my homemade template (btw- my very kind and generous mom ordered me a laminator! I'm so excited-- I will be able to reuse so many of these activities now).
Then, we moved on to some fine motor activities...we made Hh's using some little stones.
More fine motor work: dot sticker printables from (where else?!) The Measured Mom.
Next up: it was time to get these kids moving with a math activity. I sent them on a little scavenger hunt for items around the house (because house was the Hh word we were focusing on that day). They enjoyed running around (the first floor only) to see how many windows, chairs, doors, tables, fans, and light switches they could find.
On the hunt!
"More light switches!"
Next up: craft time. We made houses using various shapes. I cut out some of the shapes; I had Camden and Will cut out others (after I drew the shape on the paper for them). They really are taking more and more responsibility for their own crafts, handling most of the designing, gluing, decorating, etc.
Proud of their finished products!

Day Two:
We continued with the letter Hh on Day Two. As usual, we began by practicing writing our Hh's. I found it interesting that both Camden and Will chose to trace the outline of the block letters instead of filling them in on the inside. In the box at the bottom of the paper, I had them practice writing their own Hh's without any assistance.
The next activity (a math one) was a big hit with both boys. I got these little numbered hot chocolate cups from The Measured Mom. Rather than using marbles or stones or any other type of counter, I decided to let the kids use actual marshmallows (and yes- they snacked on a few when they were done). They filled each mug with the correct number of marshmallows, from 1-10.
After making our hot chocolate mugs, it was time to get moving. I got the general idea for this game from The Measured Mom, and then just kind of made it my own. I made some colored hearts numbering from 1-20 and made a circle with them on the floor. I then turned some music on and asked the boys to start walking (which was more like a jog/skip) around the circle. When the music stopped, they had to freeze at whatever number heart they landed on. Then, they had to tell me which number they were on. If they named the number correctly, I removed the heart. The object of the game was to have all of the hearts removed at the end so they were encouraged to help each other out and work as a team.
These boys were in constant motion, hence the fuzzy pictures, but you get the idea.
We sat back down for a quieter activity: our craft of the day, which was a Hippo puppet. I'm pretty sure I just found this idea (and printable) through some Googling.
And there you have it-- a Hippo puppet!

This is awesome. Thanks so much for letting Will participate.
I love your school. I recognize the hippo puppet. I was cleaning out Lauren's car and it was in the floor so I gathered it with some other trash and will saw it in the trash and was very upset. I thought it was something old. He got it back out. Oops, bad Nan.
